Mac McClung Has Funny Interaction With Young Sixers Fan

2023 NBA Slam Dunk Champion Mac McClung made quite the name for himself in Philadelphia this past basketball season. As the former Philadelphia 76ers two-way guard starred for the team’s developmental squad out in Delaware, McClung also set the league on fire with his near-perfect Slam Dunk Contest performance.

Being the first Slam Dunk Champion in Sixers' history, McClung became a fan-favorite in Philadelphia, with his jersey sales skyrocketing after the big event. And as McClung walked through an amusement park recently, he spotted one of his young fans donning his jersey.

McClung's attempt to unite with the fan was initially unsuccessful. Although the young veteran hooper complimented the fan’s jersey, he kept walking without noticing who did it. One of McClung’s friends then tracked down the young fan so they could take a photo and have the jersey signed.

“That’s hilarious,” McClung said in the video. “I said, ‘I like your jersey.’ He’s like: ‘Thanks, Bro.’ And kept walking.”

At this point in the offseason, McClung remains unsigned. Although he stuck with the Sixers throughout the 2023 playoff run, supporting the team from the sidelines following the Delaware Blue Coats’ successful G League Championship run, the Sixers opted to fill out their two-way slots with rookie prospects.

Now that McClung is free to speak with any team, he recently claimed his agent had discussed opportunities with other teams. “We’ll see… I am in free agency right now,” McClung told Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney. “My agent is talking to some teams, back and forth. We're just trying to evaluate what is the best situation for me. Hopefully, I will be in the NBA next year and finding my way."

At the G League level, McClung has established himself as one of the league’s best guards, putting a little bit of everything on display. Unfortunately, his opportunities at the NBA level have been limited.

Since he made his NBA debut in 2021, McClung has appeared in just four games. He played one game for the Chicago Bulls and one game for the Los Angeles Lakers. Last season, McClung saw the court for an average of 20 minutes across two games at the end of the season for the Sixers.

It’s unclear whether his 12.5 points, 4.5 assists, and five rebounds per game in two matchups with the Sixers will help his case or not, but McClung seems hopeful he’ll find his way back into the NBA for next season. In the meantime, he’s been living it up and continuing to celebrate his past season with the 76ers.
