After nearly winning the Ray Guy Award and dominating at the NFL Combine, Bryce Baringer has earned major respect.

Michigan State football had a disappointing season across the board last year, and there weren’t a ton of bright spots.

Punter Bryce Baringer was one of them.

He spent a lot of time punting the ball this past season with Michigan State’s struggling offense, and he excelled. With 50 punts on the year, Baringer averaged 49 yards per punt. A complete game-changer.

Baringer led the entire country in both gross and net punting yards and in eight out of 12 games, booted a punt of 60 or more yards.

Obviously having a great punter that can flip the field consistently is huge and makes life so much easier on the defense.

Despite all of the success Baringer has, he came up just short of winning the Ray Guy Award, but NFL teams are recognizing his capability. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah said he was “unanimously” the best punter in the draft according to conversations he’s had with people around the league.

Baringer without a doubt helped his cause with an outstanding combine performance earlier this year. He absolutely dominated at the NFL Combine, out-dueling Ray Guy Award winner Adam Korsak from Rutgers. It’s almost like Baringer should’ve won that award in the first place.

Baringer led all punters at the combine in average punt distance both in the open field and directional drills. When it came to pooch kicking, he was successful as well, only giving up one touchback. He also pinned a punt down on the 6-yard line. Not many punters in recent memory have impressed like this and have developed a legit NFL draft stock. Baringer is different.

Every team needs a punter and NFL scouts and analysts are starting to take notes on Bryce Baringer.
