Desmond Howard Savagely Insults Paul Finebaum Over Michigan Wolverines Takes
Maria Lysaker-USA TODAY Sports

Desmond Howard is one of the most well-known alumni of the University of Michigan and he loves his alma mater. Fellow ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum is not. Finebaum has been very vocal about his distaste for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines his season and Howard called him out for it.

Desmond Howard Rips Paul Finebaum Over Michigan Takes

These two probably won’t be rubbing elbows at the company Christmas party this year. Howard went on Rich Eisen’s show and lambasted Finebaum.

“Paul Finebaum is a caricature of a caricature of Paul Finebaum,” Howard said. “That’s what he is right now. You can’t take anything he says seriously. You just can’t. It’s like — they march him out there, they pull the string in his back, and he just starts spewing negative things about Michigan.

“When a person does that repeatedly and you just know his shtick, you can’t take him seriously. You take him for what he is. And that’s how I look at Paul Finebaum.”

Those are some harsh words but it isn’t the first time that Howard has called out fellow employees. He called out Pete Thamel for not being out with the crowd when College Gameday visited Ann Arbor. Howard certainly doesn’t hold back any criticism no matter who you work for.

Howard Will Defend Michigan No Matter What

Howard will continue to defend the Wolverines. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Finebaum also has never been a huge fan of Harbaugh and the Big Ten as a whole. Both of these analysts have their flags firmly planted in their takes and they aren’t budging. There will be much talk about the Big Ten versus the SEC in the coming month as the Wolverines prepare to take on the Crimson Tide.

This discourse likely will not die down until the NCAA completes its investigation into the sign-stealing scandal. It is one of the many offseason storylines to watch.
